If you bought software from Symantec, you will need to activate the product. From a product activation standpoint, Symantec needs to make sure you are not installing more than the number of installs that you are allowed from a licensing standpoint. Symantec also needs to ensure that you have the right product activation key and not using a pirated version of the software. If you have a "Activation not complete" error message, it could be due to a DNS error to their server if you have a Norton 2009 product. If you have a Norton 2010 product, you might want to run live update. If you see "Norton Product Currently Disabled", then you may want to exit all programs and reboot your machine.
In general, the 4 type of errors you may see during the activation steps are:1. Exceeding the number of installs
2. Invalid Product Key
3. Activation not completed
4. Norton Product Currently Disabled.
Troubleshooting stepsYou might want to try one or more of the following:
1. Exit all programs and reboot
2. Run live update on your software to get the latest version or fixes.
3. Make sure you type your product key correctly.
4. Make sure you have installed less than the number of licenses you bought.
